The Atlantic partnered with E*TRADE to create dynamic "Top 10" content that would drive repeat readership and engage current and potential investors by illustrating how social conversation informs investing. The challenge was finding a data partner able to ingest and analyze tens of thousands of mentions across 500 distinct topics, retain source attribution, and surface actionable trends in real time after the SEC clarified social media disclosure rules.
Using Sysomos MAP’s scalable API, The Atlantic built an interactive dashboard that distilled millions of daily conversations into a daily "Top 10 Trending Stocks," overlaid social mentions with stock performance, and offered sentiment, geographic, and keyword "Buzz Graph" insights. The program drove significant traffic and repeat readership—reaching over 40,000 users—and delivered a distinctive, social-intelligence-driven content experience.
