Case Study: Magyar Telekom achieves scalable, reliable log management with syslog-ng

A syslog-ng Case Study

Preview of the Magyar Telekom Case Study

Scalable Log Management with syslog-ng™

Magyar Telekom, a major Hungarian communications and internet service provider, needed a way to centrally collect and secure logs from more than 10,000 systems handling personal data in order to meet EU and national data-protection requirements. Its IT security team faced the challenge of managing more than 30,000 messages per second, or over 2 billion log messages per day, across a highly diverse environment of servers, applications, databases, and middleware.

Using syslog-ng™ Premium Edition from One Identity, Magyar Telekom built a centralized, highly reliable log management solution that filters and structures logs on remote hosts, transfers them in near real time, and stores them locally if connections fail. The solution also uses RLTP for reliable, non-duplicated retransmission and a clustered central log server behind load balancing for N+1 redundancy. With syslog-ng, Magyar Telekom consolidated scattered log collection into a scalable infrastructure that improved reliability, preserved log integrity, and enabled better SIEM analysis at massive volume.
