A Sysdig Case Study
Societe Générale, one of Europe’s largest banks, embarked on a program to modernize and unify a sprawling IT estate—hundreds to thousands of legacy, SOA, monolithic and distributed applications—so it could deliver faster, more secure digital services (APIs, Open Banking, blockchain readiness) without sacrificing reliability. Because of the scale and diversity of existing tools and infrastructure, the bank adopted a phased, low‑disruption approach to containerization and platform modernization.
They rolled out a four‑phase Docker program: assess and reuse existing services; deploy Docker Enterprise Edition and CI/CD; add stateful container support with NetApp storage and Sysdig monitoring; and move to microservices with runtime secrets, dynamic L7 routing (Fabio/Consul) and image/security scanning, with plans for hybrid cloud and software‑defined networking/storage. The platform now supports stateful production workloads, has onboarded dozens of applications (20 in production with 50+ in the pipeline), engages 400+ developers in a follow‑the‑sun model, and cut delivery cycles from about a year to three months while improving agility, scalability and security.
