Monitoring Docker and Kubernetes at WayBlazer

WayBlazer, a cognitive recommendation engine that uses IBM Watson to deliver AI-driven hotel and travel suggestions, moved its services to AWS and Kubernetes to scale and be more agile. That shift created a challenge for a small ops team: traditional host-level monitoring and basic platform controls couldn’t provide the service-centric visibility or run-time security needed to monitor containers, correlate application behavior with infrastructure, and quickly diagnose failures in a dynamic environment.

WayBlazer adopted the Sysdig Container Intelligence Platform (Monitor, Secure, and open-source tools), deployed via a Kubernetes DaemonSet, to gain Kubernetes-aware, service-level metrics and deep visibility inside containers (including command history). The unified monitoring and security solution sped troubleshooting (notably enabling rapid post-mortems of a Kubernetes “domino effect” failover), produced actionable thresholds and policies, reduced engineering overhead, and made their production environment significantly more robust.
