A Sysdig Case Study
Brigham Young University’s Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry relies on stable, high-performing systems to support research and coursework. Their system administrator was using Nagios but lacked process-level visibility, real-time metrics, proactive alerts and historical replay, forcing hours of manual, retroactive troubleshooting—particularly for a recurring memory-related web server crash that could take over a day to diagnose.
BYU deployed Sysdig Monitor in about 15 minutes and gained one-second-granularity streaming, historical replay, automatic metric correlation, drill-down process visibility and intelligent alerts. The team cut mean-time-to-resolution for the memory issue from over a day to under five minutes (≈99% reduction), eliminated repeated outages, and greatly reduced monitoring configuration and troubleshooting effort.
