How IU teaches 100,000 students with AI generated videos

IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) is Germany’s largest state-accredited university, serving over 100,000 students across in-person, distance, and blended learning programs. To keep pace with more than 1,300 courses and 28,000 learning videos, IU needed a way to scale video production without sacrificing quality, flexibility, or consistency. The university partnered with Synthesia to address these challenges with AI-generated video lectures.

With Synthesia, IU built an AI video production engine to create and update educational content quickly, add a virtual assistant face, produce internal learning materials, and turn text-based assignments into video. The results were strong: Synthesia helped IU cut video production time from several months to just 2 weeks, roll out AI video in around 100 courses in under a year, and improve student satisfaction, while meeting IU’s high quality standards.
