How SPT Labtech created an efficient and robust solution to reduce assay development cycles with automated DOE execution and data aggregation

SPT Labtech, a leading lab automation solutions provider, needed to speed up and de-risk pharmaceutical assay development by running sophisticated Design of Experiment (DOE) campaigns that optimize many inputs simultaneously. To achieve faster, more robust assay transfer into high-throughput screening, SPT Labtech partnered with Synthace and used the Synthace experiment platform alongside SPT Labtech’s dragonfly® discovery dispenser to push the physical execution of high-dimensional DOE workflows.

Synthace generated automated liquid‑handling protocols, in‑silico simulations, and auto‑structured data to execute a 6‑factor space‑filling DOE (3,456 runs; 20,745 liquid‑handling steps) on the dragonfly® discovery. The Synthace solution cut planning time by 75%, reduced data‑aggregation time by 94% (yielding a single mined data table within ~30 minutes), and—when paired with the dragonfly® discovery—delivered a 98% reduction in liquid‑handling time and 99.9% fewer tips, enabling thousands of assay optimizations in a single day and substantially shortening assay development cycles.
