Citigroup (Citi), a global financial services firm with about 200 million customer accounts across 160+ countries, faced a major challenge delivering consistent application security (AppSec) training to thousands of developers spread over 54 countries. Traditional in-person classes were costly and logistically complex—visas, equipment shipping, scheduling across time zones and seasons made on-site instruction impractical for a dispersed workforce of roughly 12,000 staff needing scalable, timely training.

Citi partnered with Synopsys to implement Virtual Instructor-Led Training: live, expert-led sessions with hands-on labs, breakout groups, whiteboarding and polling, scheduled to accommodate global time zones. The virtual format boosted attendance versus onsite classes, reduced travel-related waste and delays, and delivered near in-person engagement and positive feedback from managers, security staff, developers and new hires.
