Synopsys and Ralink Technology Complete DesignWare IP for PCI Express Helps Reduce Power Consumption and Lower Area

Ralink Technology, a global leader in 802.11x wireless chipset solutions, needed a low-power, small-area PCI Express 802.11n chipset (RT2890) for space-constrained miniCard applications and faced tight time-to-market targets. Their priorities were to reduce power consumption, shrink overall chip area, and accelerate development and production testing.

Ralink used Synopsys’ DesignWare complete PCI Express IP—digital controllers, PHY and verification IP—which was silicon-proven and well supported. The result: up to 50% lower power and a PHY up to 20% smaller than competing options, chip development time cut by about one month, integration completed in weeks, and initial silicon brought to production test in days.
