A Synopsys Case Study
Corin, a maker of patient-specific orthopedic implants and surgical guides, partnered with Synopsys Simpleware to address a growing challenge: scaling and speeding total hip arthroplasty (THA) workflows that rely on CT/MRI-derived 3D models while maintaining clinical accuracy and regulatory compliance. Manual segmentation and landmarking by biomedical engineers were a bottleneck, limiting throughput, increasing costs, and slowing time to market as demand for patient-specific solutions grew.
Corin deployed Simpleware ScanIP with Custom Modeler’s AI-driven segmentation and landmarking, plus custom plugins via the Simpleware scripting API, to automate and streamline the OPS workflow. This reduced per-case processing time by up to 94% versus uncustomized software, shifted much work to unattended computer time, and lowered manual tidy-up and training needs. The integrated solution has supported over 20,000 OPS cases (about 6,000/year), is used in 13 countries by ~280 surgeons, and is backed by 26 peer‑reviewed publications.
