Starblaze Technology Achieves Volume Production of SSD Controller SoC With Synopsys’ DesignWare IP Portfolio

Starblaze Technology, a Beijing-based SSD controller startup founded in 2015, set out to build the high-performance, low-power, small-footprint STAR1000 enterprise SSD controller while meeting new, stringent security requirements and an aggressive time-to-market. To succeed they needed a complete set of silicon-proven processor, foundation, security and interface IP to hit tight performance, power, area and reliability targets.

Starblaze selected Synopsys’ DesignWare portfolio—including the ARC HS38 processor and MetaWare toolkit, Foundation IP (libraries and embedded memories), DesignWare TRNG security IP, and DDR4 and PCIe 3.1 interface IP—to implement the design. The result was first-pass silicon success and volume production of the STAR1000, a 50% reduction in power and I/O latency, a 7% SoC area reduction, and compliance with the highest security standards for enterprise SSDs.
