Soterix Medical - Customer Case Study

Soterix Medical uses Synopsys Simpleware software to build a modeling service for clinicians working with MRI and fMRI scans to determine optimal electrode placement and plan transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) procedures. The challenge was to better understand brain damage and cortical activation in stroke patients while improving targeting for treatments aimed at chronic impairments such as aphasia and anomia.

Using Synopsys Simpleware, Soterix Medical evaluated both unoptimized and optimized electrode placements in a clinical trial and helped identify where targeted electrical brain stimulation could be most effective. The work showed a positive relationship between treatment-assisted increases in correct naming and modulation of the left posterior and left anterior regions of the brain, supporting more precise therapy planning and better clinical insights.
