A Synopsys Case Study
SEGA, a major game developer facing rapidly growing codebases and tight release windows, struggled to catch defects early in development—especially costly bugs that were hard to patch once titles shipped on ROM or DVD. Without an effective static analysis tool, defects often surfaced late during functional testing, putting schedule and product quality at risk across projects with hundreds of thousands to nearly a million lines of code.
After a short evaluation, SEGA implemented Coverity Static Analysis—installed in under a day and initially rolled out to a 25-developer team analyzing 900,000 LOC (now used by about 40 developers). Coverity delivered highly accurate results (false positives under 5%), found hard-to-reproduce and memory-destroying bugs, and enabled a nightly-analysis workflow that let developers fix defects earlier—improving overall development efficiency by approximately 20% and increasing team confidence in code quality.
