Samsung Wins Big with Open Source Life Cycle Strategy

Samsung SDS, the IT services arm of the Samsung Group with over 11,000 IT professionals, needed a scalable way to manage widespread open source software (OSS) use across hundreds of projects. The challenge was to promote OSS adoption for speed and innovation while enforcing licensing, compliance, and IP protection through an automated, easily integrated solution.

Samsung implemented an OSS Life Cycle powered by Black Duck, combining OSS search/discovery, an approved repository, and automated governance to support both OSS promotion and risk management. The result was faster development via code reuse, higher-quality software, lower development and TCO costs, stronger license compliance and IP protection, and increased capacity to innovate in mobile, cloud, and other markets.
