Realtek Achieves First Silicon Success for Industry’s First Certified USB 3.0 Card Reader with DesignWare USB 3.0 IP

Realtek Semiconductor, a leading IC supplier for PC peripherals and multimedia, faced an aggressive time-to-market to upgrade its successful USB 2.0 card reader to USB 3.0 while ensuring interoperability with existing hosts and achieving USB-IF certification ahead of competitors.

By adopting Synopsys’ silicon-proven DesignWare SuperSpeed USB 3.0 IP—with flexible multi-port support, run-time configurable registers and strong technical support—Realtek achieved first-pass silicon success, met its schedule, and became the industry’s first USB-IF–certified USB 3.0 card reader; the integrated controller also reduced system cost and supported SD3.0 SDR104 and CF UDMA7.
