Fujitsu Chooses SPW to Meet Aggressive Schedule For Its Latest LTE-Compatible RF Transceiver Design

Fujitsu Semiconductor Wireless Products, a long-established leader in RF transceivers for mobile devices, developed the MB86L11A multimode 2G/3G/4G transceiver to support LTE, multiple bands and legacy standards while improving power efficiency with envelope tracking and antenna tuning. The team faced a roughly 5× increase in design and simulation complexity to meet LTE requirements and needed consistency between algorithm design and RTL while minimizing development time and cost.

Using Synopsys’ SPW algorithm design tool and extensive model libraries, Fujitsu created floating‑point system models, refined them to bit‑true fixed‑point models and generated RTL from the same testbench, achieving first‑time‑right implementation with no implementation errors. The model‑based flow accelerated simulation and verification, reduced schedule and cost risk (estimated ~30%), and enabled on‑schedule, on‑budget tape‑out of a high‑performance, power‑efficient multimode transceiver that supports broad global bands and interfaces.
