A Synopsys Case Study
DisplayLink, a semiconductor and software company known for its DL-3000 family that enables USB-based multi‑display and docking solutions, needed high‑quality IP and real‑time prototyping to bring its USB 3.0–enabled system to market. With the USB 3.0 standard still evolving, the company faced risks around first‑pass silicon success, standards interoperability, and validating complex video, audio and networking functionality in a single-chip solution.
DisplayLink adopted Synopsys DesignWare IP (SuperSpeed USB 3.0 Device and PHY, HDMI transmitter) and used the HAPS FPGA‑based prototyping system to validate the design and develop software ahead of silicon. The result was first‑pass silicon success, reduced integration risk from certified IP, nearly real‑time system validation and improved memory/performance via endpoint optimizations—allowing early customer demonstrations and faster time to market.
