A Synopsys Case Study
Cray Inc., a global leader in supercomputing, needed to prototype a complex network interface ASIC of more than 50M gates that incorporated IP from multiple vendors. The team required an easy-to-use, high-speed FPGA prototyping flow (they lacked FPGA expertise), faster turnaround, robust testing and debug visibility, and earlier software development access.
Synopsys’ Automated FPGA-based Prototyping System with Universal Multi-Resource Bus and automated partitioning/synthesis tools provided fast implementation, extensive debug, and a client interface (CAPIM) that let software run against the prototype within a week. The solution enabled OS development six months earlier, uncovered both expected and unexpected bugs (avoiding respins), and delivered an estimated three-month faster time-to-market with higher tapeout confidence.
