Automated Segmentation and Design Workflows for Patient-Specific Surgical Guides

nTopology needed a way to streamline the design of patient-specific surgical guides, which required complex segmentation data, customizable geometry, and manufacturability constraints. Using Synopsys Simpleware software, the team exported patient-specific data that could be used in nTopology’s reusable design workflow to automate guide creation.

Synopsys helped enable an end-to-end workflow that automatically generated conformal mating surfaces, parametrized cutting holes and slits, and built in structural and venting features. The result was a ready-to-use mesh file for additive manufacturing, with an easy-to-use process that let clinicians or technicians customize guides and adjust cutting angles without engineering expertise.
