Altera, a developer of high-performance FPGAs and SoCs including Stratix 10 built on Intel’s 14‑nm FinFET technology, needed a unified design environment to support rapidly evolving Intel 14‑nm flows. Their goals were to integrate all EDA tools, improve visualization and tracking of design metrics, support foundry-specific processes, and maintain compatibility with internal resource management and revision-control systems.

Synopsys delivered the Lynx Design System alongside the Galaxy Design Platform, enabling Altera to replace its in‑house RTL‑to‑GDSII infrastructure and integrate Synopsys and third‑party flows in days. The new environment lets designers quickly create and update flows, collect consistent metrics, and accelerate time to performance goals; it has proven robust in production and is now used across regression testing, load balancing, cell characterization, simulation correlation, and library-quality analysis.
