Advancing Biomedical and Industrial Optics with CODE V

Gray Optics, a Portland, Maine–based optical design firm founded in 2017, needed to develop a compact, high-performance microscope objective for biomedical and life‑science applications. The challenge was to produce a finite‑conjugate, achromatic lens with 0.25 NA, 5.8× magnification within a 40 mm optical path that delivered diffraction‑limited image quality while remaining manufacturable and quick to move from concept to prototype.

Using Synopsys CODE V, Gray Optics applied advanced optimization, Macro‑PLUS routines, and fast wavefront differential tolerancing to meet tight performance and manufacturing tolerances. The result was a compact, diffraction‑limited microscope objective ready for medical and life‑science use, with faster concept‑to‑prototype turnaround and positive customer feedback on both performance and support.
