Western Reserve Academy, an independent boarding school in Ohio, faced challenges with the high and rising costs of its leased storage and backup solution. Their IT team needed an economical alternative that could handle backups for thousands of cloud accounts and on-premises data, as well as a more capable and centralized surveillance system for campus security. They turned to Synology Inc. for a solution.

Synology implemented a multi-faceted solution using its rackmount NAS storage. The vendor's Active Backup Suite was used to back up over 2,400 Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace accounts, virtual machines, and file servers, while Snapshot Replication created an off-site backup. For surveillance, Synology's Surveillance Station centralized the management of cameras, which were expanded from 20 to 110. The results included backing up 24,000 SaaS accounts, eliminating all monthly fees, and increasing surveillance footage retention to 60 days—four times longer than before.
