University of Houston secures 700 TB of research data with Synology

The Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston needed a compliant and scalable file sharing solution for its researchers. The challenge was to find an on-premises system that could handle large storage requirements, facilitate global collaboration, and meet strict data governance guidelines for grant applications, which public cloud solutions could not satisfy. They turned to Synology Inc. for a solution.

Synology implemented its Drive file management solution running on on-site Synology servers. This provided the university with over 700 terabytes of secure, configurable storage that met all data governance requirements for grants. The solution gave researchers intuitive, remote access to share data globally, ultimately expanding grant opportunities for faculty beyond what a cloud solution could offer.
