A Synology Inc. Case Study
UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, faced the challenge of standardizing its IT solutions across 70 global field offices. With some offices having low-bandwidth connections, accessing files from the Paris headquarters was time-consuming. They needed a reliable, secure, and cost-efficient solution from a vendor like Synology Inc. for local data storage, virtualization, and PC/server backup.
Synology implemented a solution using its RackStation servers and DiskStation Manager (DSM) software. Each office deployed an RS3617xs for storage and a 4-bay NAS for backups, while the headquarters used a Synology FS3017 for high-performance iSCSI storage. The vendor's Active Backup for Business tool was also used to back up 50 PCs and servers. This provided UNESCO with a centralized, reliable, and seamless data management infrastructure across all 70 countries.
