UK Backup, a Southampton-based provider of business-grade online backup and storage services, needed to add direct online backup for SMBs. They required a high-throughput, low‑power, easily expandable storage backend to sit behind their load‑balanced front-end servers, avoid bottlenecks, and grow capacity as demand increased. To meet these needs they selected Synology Inc.’s RackStation RS3411RPxs.

Synology Inc. delivered the RS3411RPxs running DiskStation Manager, deployed with 3TB drives in RAID 6 to provide a 21TB array and four Gigabit ports for high throughput to the front-end cluster, with planned RX1211RP expansion units to raise capacity by 27TB (to 48TB). The solution gave UK Backup faster, more reliable backups with simple Storage Manager tools for monitoring and expansion, NFS/rsync replication for a second layer of protection, and measurable gains in capacity (21TB now, expandable to 48TB) and connectivity (4 Gbit ports) without major reconfiguration.
