sonoVTS GmbH, an international broadcast systems integrator, acted as technical and production provider for the UN Climate Change Conference 2017 in Bonn and needed a powerful, highly available storage solution to record and archive all TV images with strong I/O, 10GbE connectivity and redundant power/HDDs. Based on prior experience with Synology Inc., they evaluated Synology Inc.'s RS3617xs+ and DSM as the vendor/product to meet these requirements.
Synology Inc. deployed an RS3617xs+ configured with maximum RAM and a dual 10GbE SFP+ NIC, using EXT4 and SMB to map the drive to transcoding workstations and serve press teams as a near-line archive and proxy for recording systems. The RS3617xs+ delivered excellent I/O and cost-efficiency—handling numerous parallel file accesses without critical memory or 10GbE load—while DSM simplified setup and management and the unit’s robust cooling and construction proved reliable for flightcase deployment.
