Run Studios - Customer Case Study

Run Studios, a 178-person video production company, faced mission-critical storage and backup problems: fragmented legacy systems that made backups and restores slow and unreliable, and a 1GbE network that couldn’t support 4–5 editors working with 4–8K video. To solve this, Run Studios partnered with Synology Inc., deploying Synology NAS appliances (including RS3617xs+, RS816, RS2416RP+, and RS3412RPxs) and related services to modernize and secure their storage infrastructure.

Synology Inc. implemented a consolidated environment with six head units, seven expansion chassis (131 HDDs), three RS3617xs+ production servers (each providing ~100TB backup capacity), a 40GbE backbone, RS816-managed Surveillance Station for eight cameras, offsite sync and LTO6 tape integration, and centralized management via DSM. The solution enabled full-resolution playback for four 4K editors plus one 8K editor with minimal latency, faster restores, simplified backups from a single console, and demonstrable capacity and reliability improvements that let Run Studios take on heavier workloads and grow.
