A Synology Inc. Case Study
Otto Beier Waffle Factory, a family-owned manufacturer founded in 1933 with more than 100 employees and multiple production lines, needed to upgrade its aging analog surveillance to meet stricter food‑safety requirements—completing outdoor coverage, monitoring loading/unloading zones and product flow—while supporting both Windows and Mac, integrating existing analog cameras, adding analytics, ensuring expandability, and providing NAS backup. To meet these needs the company selected Synology Inc.'s DS1512+ with Surveillance Station (and Axis encoders for camera integration).
Synology Inc. deployed the DS1512+ (5×3TB RAID, expandable via DX510) running Surveillance Station, integrated analog cameras using Axis M7014 encoders, and added IP indoor/outdoor cameras; the solution centralized NVR storage, enabled Apple Time Machine backups and scheduled offsite copies, provided remote access through Synology DDNS and DS cam mobile apps, and supported granular user/group privileges. The implementation delivered full coverage of critical areas, seamless analog-to-IP integration without rewiring, cross‑platform access for Mac and Windows users, reliable backup and remote monitoring, and an easy‑to‑manage system that plant staff can operate without extensive IT expertise.
