Ostwestfalen-Lippe University of Applied Sciences’ Department 2 – Media Production needed a fast, reliable way for about 250 students to share, edit and back up very large high‑definition video files on set and during post‑production. The team required immediate on‑site transfer, simultaneous multi‑user access and secure backups; to meet these needs they evaluated storage solutions and selected Synology Inc.’s DiskStation DS1512+.

Synology Inc. deployed a DS1512+ configured in RAID 5 with scale‑up capacity (supporting up to 20 TB), providing a private cloud, Samba/CIFS and AFP file services, fast on‑set transfers from camera SSDs, and scheduled USB backups for redundancy. The result was smoother collaboration—multiple students can edit raw footage concurrently, large projects (several TB) are stored and transferred quickly on location, and automated backups reduce data‑loss risk, materially improving workflow efficiency.
