A Synology Inc. Case Study
Macquarie University’s Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences—specifically its Surgical Skills Lab—faced growing difficulty storing, sharing and archiving multiple HD workshop recordings (about 8 GB per session). Previous workflows using SD DVDs and USB sticks were cumbersome, unreliable and posed security risks, so the Lab sought a networked solution and turned to Synology Inc.
Synology Inc. deployed a RackStation RS816 (with room to expand via RX415) on a private AV network to receive recordings from two HD network video recorders, using Cloud Sync to synchronise finished files to Microsoft Office 365 OneDrive and QuickConnect for remote administration. The new Synology setup eliminated USB reliability and security issues, made secure sharing and archiving straightforward, allowed remote system checks, and provided scalable storage and throughput to support future growth.
