Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe secures 131 cameras and reduces IT workload with Synology

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe sought a surveillance solution after a break-in resulted in the loss of their primary Network Video Recorder (NVR) and all footage. Their challenge was to protect their surveillance storage with a system that could provide failover to a secondary NVR if the primary one was compromised and to create archived copies of footage. They turned to Synology Inc. for a solution using Synology Surveillance Station.

Synology implemented a series of their NAS devices running Surveillance Station to act as NVRs at various tribal administration buildings, with a central 12-bay Synology NAS acting as a Centralized Management System (CMS). This solution provided redundant storage and a reliable failover system, ensuring continuous recording. It also streamlined management from a central location and allowed the IT team to configure granular access rules. This dramatically reduced the IT staff's workload by enabling tribal police to retrieve footage through a self-service portal, making them more self-sufficient.
