LightWork Design needed to replace an aging, end-of-life SAN that provided around 500 GB but was causing operational problems with newer OSs and compromising automated QA testing. After considering DIY options like FreeNAS, LightWork Design selected Synology Inc. and its RS212 NAS to modernize storage, reduce costs, and restore reliable support and integration with their mixed Windows, macOS, Unix, Linux and virtualized environment.

Synology Inc. supplied RS212 units (with a second unit held as a spare) that integrated quickly via iSCSI, fit the rack as a 1U device, and ran DSM across the Synology range for easy management. The RS212 delivered sustained performance with no server errors logged, enabled reliable weekend automated testing again, and provided built-in backup, two-unit redundancy and cloud-vault options; combined with next-business-day warranty support and much lower cost than alternative server hardware, the Synology Inc. solution measurably improved reliability and reduced risk.
