J.Shine International Logistics faced the need for a thorough, cost-effective backup and disaster recovery strategy to protect PCs, servers and virtual machines across its Kaohsiung, Taichung and Nanzi operations. Evaluating solutions that would have required over NT$1M in hardware and software, J.Shine joined Synology Inc.'s private beta for the license-free Active Backup for Business (ABB) and deployed an RS3617RPxs NAS as the primary backup host.

Synology Inc. implemented ABB with Synology Virtual Machine Manager and distributed DS718+ units at branch sites, backing up 11 PCs, 32 VMs, a NAS and two physical servers and centralizing a second copy on the RS3617RPxs. The solution enabled instant VM restore via NFS in about 2 minutes, full PC backups in under 30 minutes using CBT, and deduplication that reduced stored data from 11.6 TB to 4.2 TB (~65% savings), while a self-restore portal reduced IT workload.
