Horsecross Arts Ltd, a Perth-based arts management charity operating Perth Concert Hall and Perth Theatre with 160+ users across two sites, needed centralized, secure storage and surveillance that would work in a mixed Mac/Windows environment, integrate with Microsoft Active Directory, support iSCSI for virtual machine backups, and meet its Green Policies. To address these challenges they evaluated and selected Synology Inc.’s NAS solution (a single Synology NAS server) to provide consolidated storage, media sharing and IP camera management.

Synology Inc. deployed one Synology NAS populated with four 2 TB disks using Synology Hybrid RAID (5.5 TB usable) and an iSCSI link for VM backups, plus the iTunes server and Camera Surveillance packages. The team copied ~350 GB of music/SFX over the gigabit network in a few hours, enabling shared, searchable libraries that freed editing workstations and let Creative Learning teams self‑serve; IP cameras (Axis PTZ213) were brought into a central surveillance interface with per‑camera quotas and a secure web console. The result: simplified administration, Active Directory integration, improved event safety and faster workflows, with a cost‑effective, energy‑efficient single‑device solution from Synology Inc.
