Haltwhistle Community Campus, a federated 3–13 school with over 150 computers and more than 200GB of pupil and staff data, needed a fast, reliable, automated disk-to-disk backup and a modern CCTV recording solution. Previous NAS products delivered poor transfer rates and unreliable NAS-to-NAS sync, and their aging CCTV server lacked capacity and easy access, so they turned to Synology Inc. and its DS1512+ NAS.

Synology Inc. installed a DS1512+ with five 3TB drives using Synology Hybrid RAID, enabled dynamic link aggregation for much higher transfer speeds, and trialed the Surveillance Station NVR for IP camera management. The campus now backs up in well under half the time of the previous solution, benefits from hot-swap redundancy and expandable storage (via DX510 units), and has simple browser-based CCTV management with plans to add a second DS1512+ for off-site syncing.
