Gesundheitszentren Rhein-Neckar GmbH, a network of four hospitals with more than 1,800 beds and about 3,000 staff, needed a faster, more accessible and cost-effective storage replacement for its decentralized facilities that would simplify backups, logging and user access. They selected Synology Inc.'s RackStation RS3412xs and the DSM operating system to meet those requirements.

Synology Inc. implemented RS3412xs units integrated into GRN’s infrastructure—using DSM, dual gigabit NIC bonding, VLANs and support for iSCSI, NFS, CIFS/SMB and LDAP—so ESX hosts, Windows clients and backup systems could connect directly and scheduled NFS backups run overnight. The setup took less than a day to configure, now runs stably 24/7, has become integral to ITuK operations and enabled the team to more easily support GRN’s large IT estate (1,300+ PCs, 450 output devices and 150+ applications) with higher throughput and simpler administration.
