German School of Madrid - Customer Case Study

The German School of Madrid, a long-established K–12 institution serving about 1,500 students and 200 staff, was running all data on a single Windows server with no redundancy and had an outdated, vendor‑limited surveillance system. To secure PC and virtual server data and add Mac Time Machine compatibility while modernizing video monitoring, the school engaged Synology Inc., deploying Active Backup for Business, DS218+ and DS116 NAS units, and Surveillance Station.

Synology Inc. implemented centralized backups for ~50 Windows PCs to a DS218+, tiered virtual‑server backups using DS116 units with Hyper Backup and offsite copies to Amazon Glacier, and migrated video monitoring to Surveillance Station. The deployment enabled bare‑metal restores and self‑service recovery without license fees, simplified management, broadened camera choices, and—thanks to global deduplication—reduced storage consumption by over 50%, significantly improving protection and lowering costs.
