Der Schweitzer, a provider of professional IT solutions for private customers and SMBs, was asked to build a full on‑premises IT environment (central file server, Mail, Calendar & Contacts, media services and surveillance) while minimizing initial investment, maximizing storage utilization, and ensuring scalability, high availability and simplified user/group privilege management. To meet these demands Der Schweitzer selected Synology Inc.'s RS3617xs+ systems and Synology Virtual Machine Manager (VMM) as the core platform.

Using Synology Inc.'s solution, Der Schweitzer deployed four RS3617xs+ units (two as VMM storage with Seagate IronWolf Pro drives and SSD cache, two as worker nodes with 64 GB RAM) tied to a redundant switch stack and clustered firewalls, hosting five Synology vDSMs (AD/DNS/DHCP, file, calendar/contacts, surveillance) plus a Linux antivirus VM and a MailPlus server cluster. The Synology Inc. deployment delivered scalable, high‑throughput and highly available on‑premises services: VMM enables on‑demand resource scaling and live migration, SSD cache and link aggregation improve throughput, VLAN/firewall segmentation and Btrfs snapshots boost security and data protection, and clustered MailPlus/storage failover minimizes downtime and ensures service continuity.
