A Syniti Case Study
Wikus - Sägenfabrik, a family-run German manufacturer and world leader in band saw blades, needed fast, reliable access to IBM i ERP data for a PC-server Business Information system. Direct queries using native IBM tools caused severe performance problems (queries ranged from 15 seconds up to 45 minutes) and placed a heavy load on the IBM i, blocking regular ERP use. To address this, Wikus engaged Syniti and adopted a real-time data replication approach using DBMoto.
Syniti implemented DBMoto to replicate DB2 for i data to Microsoft SQL Server with change-data-capture, transferring changes within about one minute and reading only journals to minimize IBM i and network impact. As a result, Syniti’s solution reduced complex query times to 3–30 seconds, eliminated ERP performance degradation, maintained near-real-time, de-duplicated data for reporting on roughly 35 GB of data, and provided reliable logging for monitoring and troubleshooting.
