Case Study: HMV Japan achieves real-time inventory consolidation for e-commerce with Syniti (DBMoto)

A Syniti Case Study

Preview of the HMV Japan Case Study

When the time came to develop a data warehouse application, HMV Japan evaluated and selected HiT Software's DBMoto

HMV Japan, a leading importer and retailer with 62 stores and roughly 40 million visitors a year, needed a faster, real‑time way to consolidate inventory data for its e‑commerce site and stores after existing IBM DB2 for i access via Microsoft ODBC proved too slow. To build a data warehouse and achieve real‑time availability, HMV Japan selected Syniti’s DBMoto replication solution.

Syniti configured DBMoto to incrementally mirror data from six IBM i systems into a Microsoft SQL Server data warehouse, consolidating about 1.4 million records from 69 DB2 source tables into a single target table. The result was stress‑free, near real‑time inventory access used by backbone systems and the intranet with no daily maintenance required; HMV Japan now plans to use DBMoto to feed in‑store digital kiosks to improve customer satisfaction and sales. Syniti’s local partner, Climb Inc., supported the smooth initial setup.
