Case Study: Osborne achieves near-real-time inventory, reporting and analytics with Syniti Data Replication

A Syniti Case Study

Preview of the Osborne Case Study

Osborne Demands Current Data Across Multiple Platforms

Osborne, a multinational producer of wines and spirits, faced a challenge keeping inventory and commercial systems synchronized between an IBM i (Db2 for i) production system with limited resources and a Microsoft SQL Server environment used for commerce and reporting. To achieve real-time inventory flows and build a SQL Server–based data warehouse for reporting and analytics without impacting the IBM i system or requiring heavy consulting, Osborne evaluated change data capture solutions and selected Syniti’s Data Replication product.

Syniti implemented Syniti Data Replication to replicate and synchronize more than 100 tables between IBM i and SQL Server, enabling bi-directional, near–real-time data flow and a low-touch deployment that Osborne’s team could configure internally. The solution fed the commercial management system and analytics platform, reduced report/query times dramatically (data cubes now return information in about 2 seconds versus roughly 20 minutes), and met Osborne’s goals for online availability, low cost, and minimal production impact.
