Ingram Micro increases performance with HiT JDBC/DB2 Type 4 driver

Ingram Micro, a global wholesale provider of technology products and supply chain services, faced performance and reliability problems with a distributed automated volume-licensing application that used DB2 on OS/390 and EJB application servers on Solaris. The company had been using a type 3 JDBC gateway-based middleware that created a performance bottleneck and a single point of failure, so Ingram Micro engaged Syniti to address these issues.

Syniti implemented a 100% pure Java, type 4 JDBC/DB2 driver that provides direct connectivity (no gateway), native DB2 SQL translation, SSL security and simpler administration. Replacing the gateway-based middleware with Syniti’s JDBC/DB2 driver eliminated the bottleneck, improved throughput and reliability for OLTP transactions, enabled successful deployment of Java applications against DB2 on OS/390, and reduced management costs.
