Case Study: American Water achieves smooth-flowing, enterprise-wide clean data for ERP and BI with Syniti

A Syniti Case Study

Preview of the American Water Case Study

How a Transformation Project United Processes and Business Units Across the Enterprise

American Water, a large, regionally grown water utility operating in 30+ states, faced a fragmented IT landscape of disparate systems, manual processes and poor data quality that hindered reporting and regulatory compliance as it moved to a centralized SAP ERP backbone. To support the ERP rollout and an enterprise BI strategy, American Water engaged Syniti for data migration and information‑governance services to standardize master data and shift ownership of data quality to the business.

Syniti executed a “load early, load often” migration program with multiple mock conversions, cleansing and consolidating master records (including more than 70,000 vendor records) and standardizing materials and address formats, which enabled a smooth SAP ERP go‑live in August 2012. The Syniti effort helped deliver an on‑time, on‑budget “boring go‑live,” reduced the initial reporting footprint to a focused set of ~100 enterprise reports, and established the data foundation and governance needed to automate controls and extend BI across CIS and EAM systems.
