A Syniti Case Study
Gordon Food Service, a major foodservice distributor, needed an enterprise-wide BI solution to support product, vendor and customer margin and profitability analysis across all divisions while minimizing impact on its mission‑critical DB2 P30 iSeries systems. To handle the scale — roughly 50 tables (20–230 columns), tables ranging from 150 to 26 million records, and about 3 million new transactions per month (~100,000 primary transactions per day) — Gordon Food Service engaged Syniti and used DBMoto v5 data replication for continuous mirroring into a SQL Server 2005 Data Warehouse staging area.
Syniti implemented DBMoto continuous one‑way mirroring from DB2 to the SQL Server staging environment with controlled stop/restart capability, delta capture and a verbose audit of inserts/updates/deletes. This removed the need for custom change‑detection code and avoided direct reads on production tables, minimizing user impact while delivering fast, reliable replication for large volumes. Stuart Bestbier reported strong support and documentation, and Syniti’s DBMoto met the project’s performance, reliability and data‑capture requirements for the BI rollout.
