Data Availability Challenges In Local Government

The Ayuntamiento de Calvia, the municipal government of Calviá in Mallorca, needed continuous, real-time access to its IBM Db2 LUW data to assure business continuity and eliminate the risks of a 24‑hour lag from nightly backups. With an 11‑person IT team (one DBA), about 400 users and roughly 1 TB of data to manage, the city evaluated solutions and chose Syniti, deploying Syniti Data Replication (formerly DBMoto) to meet its requirement for an accurate, always‑available copy of production data.

Syniti implemented Syniti Data Replication to perform real‑time change data capture and mirror the production Db2 environment to a target Db2 LUW server on Windows, replacing lengthy batch restores. The result was immediate data availability, a truly highly available mirrored system, and reduced production overload by directing queries to the replica—protecting performance for users while managing 1 TB and ~400 users. Syniti’s easy administration, strong support response and competitive pricing were cited as key benefits.
