A Synerzip Case Study
OOXML Tool needed a better way to analyze, edit, and compare OOXML documents during office suite development, especially when working with packaged XML files that were difficult and time-consuming to inspect manually. The traditional process of renaming files, unzipping them, and opening XML files in separate viewers slowed developers down and made it harder to track data loss issues. Synerzip used internal time between clients to build a utility to solve this problem.
Synerzip implemented OOXML Tools, a Chrome extension built with HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS that works offline. The tool lets users drag and drop OOXML packaged files, view and edit the XML inside, repackage them back into OOXML documents, and compare two Office documents side by side. The result was a free, Linux-friendly editor and debug tool that streamlined OOXML development, though the case study does not provide quantified performance metrics.
