A Synerion Case Study
Shaw Conference Centre, a premier convention and entertainment venue in Edmonton managed by Edmonton Economic Development Corporation, faced growing payroll and staffing challenges as its workforce expanded to nearly 700 hourly employees. Relying on paper timesheets meant managers spent up to four hours per event manually calculating pay, and the Centre needed accurate tracking of hours, automated gratuity and union-due calculations, reliable staffing coverage, and reduced tardiness and absenteeism.
SCC implemented Synerion’s TimeZone core with the Enhanced Scheduler and five HandPunch biometric terminals, with customizations to automate gratuity and Local 401 union-due calculations and integrate with ADP. Adoption was swift; payroll processing became vastly faster (reported as 300× quicker), manager time spent on payroll dropped significantly, accuracy and on-time pay improved, and managers could focus on event delivery—delivering both hard savings and softer operational benefits.
