Bemis Flexible Packaging’s Toronto manufacturing facility struggled with an outdated, paper-based punch-card time and attendance system that was slow, error-prone and difficult to manage for a largely unionized workforce (about 80% production staff). Manual collection and spreadsheet processing made it hard to track hours, enforce regulations, control labor costs and prevent buddy-punching, overtime errors and payroll corrections.
The plant implemented Synerion’s automated workforce management with biometric hand scanners, giving supervisors real-time visibility, automated exception reporting and seamless transfer to ADP payroll. The change eliminated much manual intervention, improved compliance and job-rate accuracy, cut payroll processing and supervisor time by at least 20%, delivered pay-for-actual-work and achieved payback in under a year (with an expected additional $500/month savings).
