Getting Everyone and Everything on the Same Page at Gloucester Engineering

Gloucester Engineering, a 50+-year manufacturer of custom capital equipment for the plastics industry, struggled with scattered paper archives, SolidWorks/AutoCAD files that lacked revision history, and errors from outdated prints after moving to 3D CAD. They needed a way to manage configurations, streamline engineering change orders (ECOs), improve project management, stay compliant with internal/ISO practices, digitize decades of paper records, and secure intellectual property. To address this, Gloucester Engineering turned to Synergis Software and its Adept document management solution.

Synergis Software implemented Adept to control file relationships and revisions, provide .ALS “magic links” to always reference current prints, maintain a full audit trail, and centralize and digitize legacy documentation (now approaching a terabyte of data). The result: discrepancies between what engineering and customers see were eliminated, nearly every department (all but IT and Finance) now works from the same up-to-date documents, the ECO process is streamlined, IP is secured, and administration is largely hands-off for IT — improvements that helped Gloucester Engineering handle increased backlog and set the stage for further ERP integration.
