A Synel Case Study
Olam Group, a leading agriculture-business operating in 70 countries, faced a significant workforce management challenge as its Gabon operations grew exponentially from 1,000 to over 8,000 employees in a short period. Located in remote plantations with harsh conditions and no basic infrastructure, the company struggled with inaccurate headcounts, ghost employees, payroll errors, and employee disputes. They selected Synel and its TimeLOGWeb solution for its flexibility, scalability, and ability to integrate with their payroll systems.
Synel implemented a robust, network-based biometric time and attendance system using hand scan readers to withstand the difficult environment. The solution provided accurate, real-time data that eliminated ghost workers and automated overtime calculations, seamlessly integrating with the Sage payroll application. This resulted in reliable reporting for over 8,000 employees, 100% resolution of payroll issues, and significant time savings for supervisors. The success of this project led Olam Group to roll out the Synel system to other subsidiaries, including Olam Congo.
